CCS ICD-S40 Kit

The ICD-S40 unit communicates with the PC and the debugging software via an RS232 connection; an RS232 cable is included in the kit. It operates at a 40Mhz clock frequency resulting in quick debug times. A list of supported devices may be found here.

The CCS ICD units work with the CCS PCW Debugger or CCS's stand-alone ICD control software. The CCS PCW Debugger is a very robust debugger integrated with the PCW Professional Compiiler and provides very detailed debugging information at the C level. The stand-alone control software allows you to quickly program target chips using the ICD's ICSP. The control software also lets you update the ICD unit firmware without having to remove the chip from the ICD unit. (Using these software tools requires you to have loaded the CCS ICD firmware onto the ICD unit, which is loaded by default). The ICD control software comes with an ICD unit and allows for programming of the supported flash parts. For debugging support you will need the PCW Professional Compiler, the PCWH Professional Compiler or the PCWHD Professional Compiler as the debugger is integrated into the IDE.

The ICD-S40 is powered from the target board. The target board needs to supply 5 volts to the ICD. To program at 3V, you will need the ICD-U40. The ICD-S40 does not support 3V.
