The ICON H-Bridge is the first component of the ICON DC Motor
Control system designed to be a low cost, and modular, solution
to brushed DC motor control needs. This 2.5"x1.9" board provides
logic level control of brushed DC motors to 40V and 12A. An on board
microcontroller can be accessed via standard serial communication,
and provides temperature and current monitoring, as well as user
defined temperature and current fuse settings.
The ICON H-Bridge provides easy connectivity to a wide range
of medium power DC motors. An on-board microcontroller monitors
current and temperature to provide protection if either trip point
is exceeded. Various configuration registers may be monitored and
programmed via the serial interface. These registers contain information
such as the system load current, board temperature, over current
trip point, over temperature trip point, and status information.
In Serial mode the H-bridge is enabled/disabled via a serial
command set. In Direct Drive mode the serial input line becomes
the H-bridge enable control pin, while the serial output can be
used to monitor the H-bridge status. In both operating modes each
MOSFET in the H-bridge is controlled individually by a control input
(four MOSFET control lines in all).
The ICON H-Bridge is designed to operate with motor voltages
up to 40V and can carry continuous currents up to 12A when combined
with the Active Cooling System.
This robust H-Bridge handles peak currents of 25A and has built
in, programmable, over-current and over-temperature trip points.
Connectivity to the ICON H-Bridge is simplified to 2 - 1x8 0.156"
receptacles capable of top or bottom insertion of 1x8 0.156" headers.
With the small size (2.5"x1.9"x0.5") and versatile interface capabilities
of the ICON H-Bridge, it meets the requirements of many DC motor
interface designs.

ICON Serial Adapter
Simplifies connectivity of the ICON Interface Module to
a PC. Provides test points, analogue output, and connectivity
to Microchip's DV164002 for customization of PIC16F873 firmware
used on the ICON Interface Module (see AN601).
ICON Position
Controller
PID based position controller for use with brushed DC motors
equipped with quadrature encoders. Direct, Analogue, Velocity,
or Trapezoidal control modes with 32 bit position control.
Can act as a stand alone position controller or will work
under control of a master unit. Operates with the ICON H-Bridge
configured in direct drive mode.
ICON Interface
Module
Can act as the ICON H-Bridge Programmer. Other features
of this design include uni-directional and bi-directional
analogue control, serial 8N1, or motor speed control for
use with the ICON H-Bridge. Set point based speed control
system, or direct PWM control via communication interface.
ICON Communication
Module
The ICON Communication Module is designed to simplify testing
and development of projects requiring RS232 or RS485 serial
communication level conversion. The device can be mounted
directly to the ICON Interface Module, ICON Position Controller,
or the Mini Position Controller using supplied stand-offs
and ribbon cable hardware.
ICON BS2 Carrier
Board
This kit based on application note AN600 allows a single
Parallax BASIC Stamp 2 to control two ICON Interface Modules
and the ICON H-Bridges connected to them. This assembly
is ideally suited for medium sized robotics projects. Various
application notes are available to support this product.
12V Active Cooling
System
This fan, hardware, and connector kit can be easily added
to the ICON H-Bridge to increase continuous current handling
capability to 12A.
